At the end of 2022, whilst on summer vacation here in Australia, I was writing out my goals for 2023. This year, I was looking to take positive steps primarily in relation to my connection with God. I was looking to form a stronger communion with the Lord but wasn’t sure where or how to start. I asked God to send me a sign, to put something in my path that would bring me in closer communion with Him.
A couple of days later, I saw a post on Twitter about Exodus 90. Curious as to what it was, I clicked the link and took a deeper look. After reading the description of the program and the focus on prayer, asceticism, and fraternity, it was exactly what I had been praying for. I felt that God had answered my prayers by putting that Tweet in my feed.
I sent the link to my wife that night, and told her, “I’m going to do this program”. I was sure that she was thinking that this would be another one of those things that I’d start and soon lose motivation for once the realities of a demanding career and having a young family brought.
But for me, Exodus 90 was a different type of program. There was a higher purpose and motivation. Those 90 days were truly a life changing experience. For me, and I know for others as well, the great thing about Exodus 90 was the fraternity. In our small group, we had people from different corners of the world, from different cultural and racial backgrounds, and different denominations, all coming together united in our faith in Christ.
When the email came through about the Freedom Summit, I saw this as another opportunity to unite with others who are looking to form a deeper, closer relationship with Christ. So being the good husband that I am, I sent the link to my 8-month pregnant wife and said, “I’m going to go to this conference”. All the way from our home in Australia. In October we will be getting onto a plane with our 2yr old and 4-month-old sons and flying to the USA.
For me, the Freedom Summit represents an opportunity to refocus, reinvigorate, and recommit myself to Jesus. To spend time listening to what He is calling me to do, and to walk away with a renewed sense of not only purpose, but sense of service – how do we do His will.
I’m looking forward to spending those four days with other, committed brothers from around the world, and continue to learn from, and strengthen, each other in our faith and love for Jesus Christ. I’m looking forward to coming back home to being a better father to my sons, a better husband to my wife, and a better Christian in my community.
