A Story of Freedom: John McDowell

If you're on the fence about starting Exodus 90, I really want to encourage you to pray about it and think about it. I want you to challenge yourself. Really talk about what are the cons of it and ask

Before I did Exodus, I was living my faith but the level of depth that I had to my faith was not there. Learning about and starting Exodus was certainly my journey to having that close relationship with the Lord. I agreed to do Exodus because I was looking for some structure and accountability with prayer life, but also with some general disciplines like taking care of myself and having some focus on being intentional with my family.

The concept of removing distractions was very attractive to me. There were some things that I wanted to change and receive some freedom from: electronics, social media, TV. There was temptation with lust. I had stopped some of that a little bit before Exodus, but Exodus certainly helped me stay away from lust and not have any slip ups.

After Exodus 90, the word that kept coming to was balance. Exodus allowed me to find balance that I could take beyond those 90 days between work expectations and family, designating time to spend with the Lord every day; valuing that time that I spent with my fraternity and the things that we were able to do.

I talk with my fraternity a lot about the fruits of Exodus and the ripple effect that it’s had on my life and relationships. My fraternity is made up of  six guys and when we finished Exodus 90, we knew we had to keep doing this because we needed it. We still meet every Saturday and we even started to meet with all of our families at least once a month. We gather at someone’s house, have a meal together, pray a group rosary together – we just enjoy each other.

After Exodus 90, the relationship that I saw the most change in was that between my wife and me. Quite honestly,we noticed that even the physical intimacy in our life changed because of that and has only continued to become better.

If you’re on the fence about starting Exodus 90, I really want to encourage you to pray about it and think about it. I want you to challenge yourself. Really talk about what are the cons of it and ask yourself, do you want better balance in your life? Do you want better relationships in your life? Do you want to be closer to the Lord?

If so, then you need to consider Exodus 90.
